Guest post: Join Qatar in Brussels

(this is a guest post)

Dear friends,

We are really excited to announce that Qatar in Brussels - the third climate justice convergence by Young Friends of the Earth Europe - is knocking at our doors! We are happy to invite you to join us. We also have some new activities this year! For a sneak pe
ek just keep reading. ;)

Why are we organising Qatar in Brussels?

We wish to build a network of young people who will work on being a part of the solution to the climate crisis. We believe that it is time now to increase our capacity and trust in our own strength to build a strong and diverse climate justice movement from the bottom up.

We must all stand together and let our voices be heard - this is our world and our future. Developed countries are passive to take immediate action and accept responsibility for causing climate change. The ones who are suffering and will suffer the most are those developing countries and us, the young people along with our future children.  We must let politicians and corporations know that young people across the world are fully aware of everything that is happening and send a clear message - we want climate justice and we want it now! Not tomorrow, not in ten years, but now!

What are we going to do?

We have some exciting news for this year’s event - Qatar in Brussels will coincide with a Belgian youth Powershift event, taking place on the first weekend of December in Brussels. You can look forward to joint activities and sessions!

In general, we’d like to link the Southern and Northern struggles for climate justice through having a well-balanced mix of activities on our programme. We will create a week full of exciting discussions, skills-shares and activities where participants can contribute and feed in, share skills, listen to speakers, plan actions and build the movement in Europe. At the same time, we’ll be following the climate talks in Doha and taking action as the negotiations unfold.
The event is open to all members of the public and there will be space to give your own workshops, and help creating a programme that fits best for you. If you’re interested in this, please email workshops@qatar-in-brussels.org as soon as possible.

What is Qatar in Brussels?

Young people from the climate justice movement from all across Europe will come to Brussels between 1st – 8th December, during the second week of the COP18 UN climate talks in Doha, Qatar, to have an open space where together we can:

·      follow the negotiations,
·      link up with fellow activists in Qatar,
·      learn, exchange and discuss climate change and climate justice
·      and make our voice heard through actions without having to travel all the way to Qatar.

Where and when?
Qatar in Brussels will run from Saturday 1st - Saturday 8th December 2012 at The Waterman Jes, in central Brussels, Belgium http://www.dewaterman.be/
